Scriptural Prayer for the Troubled
by Inez Haythorn

Prayer and scripture are two of the most powerful forces in the world. The Bible says that the prayer of the righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 5:17) The word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. (Hebrews 4:12) God watches over his word to see that it is fulfilled. (Jeremiah 1:12)

By incorporating scriptures into our prayers, we are backing them with all the power of God's word. The following are comforting verses from the Bible that I have rewritten into prayers. May they be a blessing to you.

1. You are the Lord of peace. Please give us your peace at all times and in every way. (2 Thessalonians 3:16)

2. Help us to cast our cares on you, knowing that you will sustain us. You never let the righteous fall. (Psalms 55:12)

3. Please keep us in perfect peace because our mind is fixed steadfastly on you, and we trust in you. (Isaiah 26:3)

4. Answer us when we call, righteous God. Give us relief from our distress. Be merciful to us and hear our prayers. (Psalms 4:1)

5. Help us not to be anxious about anything. In everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, let us present our requests to you. We thank you that your peace, which transcends all understanding, will keep our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6,7)

6. Help us to be strong and take heart, because our hope is in you, Lord. (Psalms 31:24)

7. Enable us to cast all our anxiety on you, because you care for us. (1 Peter 5:7)

8. Lord, you are a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. We know your name and trust you. You have never forsaken those who seek you. (Psalms 9:9,10)

9. We thank you that the righteous may have many troubles, but you deliver us from them all. (Psalms 34:19)

10. We come to you, Lord, weary and burdened. Thank you for your promise to give us rest. (Matthew 11:28)

In the name of Jesus we pray,
